Getting Started Checklist

Students Applying for Classified Admissions


The following is a guideline designed to ensure that all paperwork necessary for taking courses through MS Food Science, Nutrition, and Health Promotion Distance Education Program at Mississippi State University as a classified student are completed. Please see the Requirements page for additional information: http://www.distance.msstate.edu/health/require.html.

______ 1. Complete the application Online.

______ 2. Write a Statement of Purpose.

______ 3. Submit Three Letters of Recommendation.

______ 4. Request two Official Transcripts from the college in which you earned your baccalaureate degree (If the college transcript reflecting your baccalaureate degree list less than 60 hours of course work, you will need to submit official transcripts from previous colleges attended in which you earned undergraduate credit towards your degree).  Request official transcripts from all colleges you attended after earning your baccalaureate degree. 

  • Send on original transcript to Dr. Barry Hunt, P.O. Box 9805. Mississippi State, MS 39762
  • Mail a second original transcript to Lisa Mead (see below)

______ 5. Submit a $30.00 application fee.

______6. Applicants must have taken the Graduate Record Exam (GRE) and attained a combined score of 800 or higher on the verbal and quantitative portions of the exam. International studenests are required a minimum TOEFL score of 550 paper based test or 173 on the computer based test..

______ 7. You will receive a letter of acceptance when you are officially admitted into the university.  Upon acceptance please contact your Graduate Coordinator for advising prior to registering for classes.

______ 8. Review the Student Orientation Guide for important information needed to successfully complete the registration process.

______ 9. Complete the Registration process.

______ 10. Textbooks are available for ordering 2 to 3 weeks prior to classes beginning. You can order your textbooks through the MSU Bookstore.

______ 11. Update browser settings.

______ 12. Visit http://MyCourses.msstate.edu and read the Student Resources.
