Purpose/Mission

The Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies (BSIS) is a degree program designed especially for adult students. Its intent is to allow students maximum flexibility to custom-design a curriculum to their personal and career goals. The program requires the completion of the common core curriculum as set by the Board of Trustees, Institutions of Higher Learning of the State of Mississippi, as well as 36 upper-division hours in the areas chosen for emphasis. The emphasis areas must include 18 hours from two concentrations or 12 hours from three. At least two of the concentrations must be from different academic colleges within the university. To assure breadth of study as well as depth, students also must complete 12 hours of core electives and 32 hours of general electives supporting their concentration areas.

This degree offers only the upper level courses for this degree program. Students may transfer lower level credits from institutions of higher education. The academic courses leading to the associate of arts degree at most community colleges meet Mississippi State University core requirements for the BSIS degree program
